After the initiative of the Environmental Quality Observatory of Syros and in collaboration with the Municipality of Syros Ermoupolis on Sunday, May 9, 2021, members of the Observatory together with their families proceeded to clean the hills around the area of Panachrantos & Anastasis from garbage, plastic and various other objects.
In less than 2 hours, since there was a large turnout, more than 40 garbage bags were collected as well as other items such as rusty metals, old furniture, etc., which were immediately collected by the cleaning service of the Municipality of Syros- Ermoupolis after gathering them up in different parts of the area.
Through this symbolic initiative and other similar actions that will follow, the aim of the Observatory is to highlight the magnitude of the problem of waste that ends up in the hills of the island and consequently in the sea. The ultimate goal, of course, is to find an effective solution to prevent such phenomena.
We thank the Department of Environment of the Municipality of Syros Ermoupolis and especially the Director Mrs. Olympia Tassopoulou who supported the effort of our association by offering garbage bags but also by providing the trucks of the Municipality to collect garbage from the collection points.
